Love Your Museum Weekend 2011

Hot on the heels of the Easter weekend offerings comes another bank holiday weekend full of events. One linked set stands out. Readers will know that ten museums are competing against each other for the £100,000 Art Fund Prize. This coming weekend, is an event called Love Your museum where all ten will throw open their doors with the deliberate intention of persuading you to vote for them. Visiting the USA

Newly published data shows that, up until the end of November, there are still fewer of us going to the US than in 2009. But it is only down by 1%, which isn’t a lot in the scheme of things. Compared to South Korea whose visitor numbers to the US are up by over 50% it does make a difference. Why are we reluctant when traditionally it has been one of the big destinations for Brits?
