At first thought, the new Canadian slogan of the province of Alberta seems a little strange. But it refers to the landscape. So awe-inspiring is it that it will take your breath away.
The new slogan has already began on television and in posters. You’ll see a lot more of it in January when the key booking period begins.
When you book a hotel in advance, you reserve it by passing details of a valid credit card. Sometimes to get a good deal the hotel or its booking agency debits your card there and then. In which case you would have thought that would be an end to the matter but no, or at least not in one case.
A person booked a stay at a Radisson hotel and the card was immediately debited. 2 weeks after this date she was forced to cancel the card in question as it was believed to be stolen. Upon checking her booking the day before arrival, she called to talk to the hotel to inform them that she no longer had the card, and to ask how to proceed. After nearly an hour of being passed too and fro, she was informed that providing she had ID, she would be fine, as the room was already paid for.
New Year’s Eve and the first day of the New Year have become tourist attractions in their own right. Television has magnified it by capturing the moment when the New Year begins in a number of places. Around lunchtime on New Years Eve, the new year is heralded in Sydney in Australia with a huge firework display and winds down about 24 hours later with the display from Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. In between, there is the traditional gathering in London at Trafalgar Square, in Princes Street in Edinburgh, the swinging of fireballs in Stonehaven near Aberdeen (quite a sight if you’ve never seen it) and the counting in of the new year in Times Square in New York. As well as that a large number of towns and cities such as Nottingham and Carlisle will have firework displays.
