There has been a survey.People who have read this blog before will be aware that I am not overwhelmed with some of the information that comes out. And here’s another that can be construed as saying something which may not tell the whole truth. But it does give me a new word,- Paliday.A paliday is [...]
Yes there is such a thing, at least according to Niels Pedersen, the managing director of Supranational Hotels. It seems he equates those that travel on business and whose bill is paid for by their company with more demanding requests. They want all the features available that they can get but they don’t want to [...]
I’ve just spent the day in Durham. The students have gone down to be replaced by masses of tourists yet this historic city is only, according to one source, the 17th most popular historic place in Britain. I can’t understand that myself. With the cathedral and castle plus the cobbled city centre and bridges why only [...]
Being in Miami, I thought I would spend a few days in Miami Beach which is a long strip of land connected by bridges to Miami proper. Obviously this is the beach area and the beaches are gorgeous. Long, long wide strips of sand being lapped or thrashed, depending on the weather, by emerald green seas. Yes it looks that good. I am not exaggerating.
A flight search company called Skyscanner has issued a press release listing some of the strangest and assuming airports around the world. As a piece of publicity it doesn’t really extol the efforts or achievements of the company but it is worthy of mention for providing a little chuckle as the day starts. The lists of [...]
Last year, for mother’s day, I treated my mum to a weekend away. She cashed it in June. Poppy, my Cockapoo puppy of just 6 months, came along for the ride.
This is the first holiday I booked with my dog, and so we started slowly. There are many websites around for dog-friendly holidays, holiday cottages, B&Bs etc. What the accommodations don’t tell you is that there is often a restriction on the Number – or type – of dog(s) that you are permitted to take with you.
The longest day has come and gone so Summer must really be around the corner. (Apart from Wimbledon when traditionally it will rain and feel more like early Spring) The Scottish schools will break-up shortly for the holidays and, after the packing, comes the thought of how much we will get for our money [...]
Nearly every place of any size in the UK has a museum. They were developed so that the public would have the opportunity of seeing things that had been given by generous benefactors who had found them or bought them. These finds could come from anywhere in the world. Millions of us visit our museums [...]
As the Summer holidays near, the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) has taken the opportunity of issueing revised guidelines on what you can and cannot take on an aircraft. If you book through a tour operator, they will have a copy of the leaflet that you can request. On the CAA website you can download a copy or [...]
Yes I know. Summer isn’t properly here yet and I’m writing about skiing. But the glorious weather of last weekend has gone to be replaced by showery and rather cool weather. Not quite ski weather but the tour operators are out there already telling us that it will be more expensive this winter. The largest supplier [...]
A company called Hitwise which looks at how often we look at websites says that travel companies are lower in their list of top sites visited than a year ago.On the face of it, this tends to suggest that fewer visits are being made to travel websites. Does that mean that people aren’t using them [...]
It’s time for another in our series of odd surveys. This time it is one commissioned by Teletext Holidays. It suggests that people are unwilling to use all of their holiday allowance for fear they will use their jobs. Over a quarter of us fear that taking too much time off can make a person potentially [...]
I know it seems a while ago now but one of the specialist companies that keeps track of how many people stay in hotels and what people pay, PKF Hotel Consultancy Services, has published it’s study of what the Easter market was like in the U.K. Overall, outside London, the price of a room dropped [...]
