The number of people who move to France and embrace the French way of life, the countryside or cities as well the people can be counted in hundreds of thousands. As we draw towards the end of France Week, here is news of just one, Kate Rodde.
Just as Europe has capitals of culture; this year, Istanbul, Essen and Pecs so the Arab world highlights a city each year. This year it is Alexandria in Egypt, a city which is more well known than visited by British and Irish tourists. It is known as where Cleopatra had her palace, where the great lighthouse was one of the wonders of the world and home of the ancient world’s largest library. Founded and named after Alexander the Great, its glory days ended centuries ago as Cairo gradually became the capital.
Today it is where Egyptian city people go for the holiday. The days when the British and Europeans seem to take over the city have gone. Today Europeans visit Cairo and Luxor or go to the Red Sea resorts.

From Der Spiegel, the German news company, comes a story that I haven’t seen much in our press which is why I mention it. It concerns a claim by a doctor that, in his opinion, easyJet was not carrying sufficient basic medical support. This is not to say that it was not adhering to the law, merely that if he is right, the laws need urgent consideration so that we may all feel better protected. Then he concluded by saying that easyJet can be only recommended for passengers who are entirely certain that they are healthy is cause for some thought
