Australia accommodates everyone’s idea of a perfect holiday, from four-year-olds to grannies, reports Pippa Jacks
As we celebrate France on their national holiday we begin a week of stories on France starting with a brief introduction to each of the 22 French mainland regions and Corsica.
Last week, The Mersey Partnership tourism awards were announced. Tate Liverpool and its Picasso exhibition last year walked away with two of the main awards, the Tourism Marketing Initiative of the Year and the Cultural and Heritage Experience of the Year.
As I mentioned yesterday, apart from the consumer travel shows, there isn’t much going on to attract those of us who are dreaming of breaks from this cold winter. (more snow overnight here on ungritted roads!) It’s just as well then that one of the consumer shows is the best, the Destinations Show which takes place this weekend at Earls Court in London and then in a month’s time, reappears in Birmingham at the NEC. A general travel show, it covers all sorts of destinations and types of holidays and links it in with background on culture and food.

For some time, readers will know that CD-Traveller has urged caution in looking at the reviews on comparison/review sites. In the past there has been evidence of reviews written by rivals, reviews that have been scathing and untrue. Equally some companies have written their own which praised to the heights their own offerings. Most are genuine but which do you believe.
Now about 400 hotels and restaurants have banded together as the Cloud Industry Forum and claim that some reviews are false and/or unfair and border on defamation. They are considering a group defamation action.
