The city has been in existence for well over 3000 years and thankfully for us travellers a significant amount of this history remains for us to marvel at including an impressive fortified wall surrounded by a moat built some 600 hundred years ago during the Ming Dynasty although this was only to replace an earlier earth wall constructed by Emperor Liu Bang in 198BC.

The decision by BAA to sell Edinburgh Airport instead of Glasgow might seem surprising to some. After all, Edinburgh has more passengers, is based in Scotland’s capital and had money invested last year to spruce up the departure lounges.

What Do Visitors Want to See in the UK?

Two recent surveys, one by Visit England and the other by the foreign exchange bureaux company, First Rate both claim to be able to reveal what visitors to our shores want to see. Unfortunately the two say different things. the findings from Visit England are based on visitor entry numbers and since places like Trafalgar Square and Tower Bridge are free to walk around (unless you want to go into Tower Bridge), visits aren’t counted.

Miami Beach: Where the Glamorous People Live

Being in Miami, I thought I would spend a few days in Miami Beach which is a long strip of land connected by bridges to Miami proper. Obviously this is the beach area and the beaches are gorgeous. Long, long wide strips of sand being lapped or thrashed, depending on the weather, by emerald green seas. Yes it looks that good. I am not exaggerating.
