Thames Festival Ends Summer in London

Submitted by adrian on September 12, 2009 – 10:15 amNo Comment

I’ve always thought that Summer ends as you eat the last blackberries on the bushes and listen to the Last Night of the Proms. A few years ago, London devised another way to end Summer and it coincides with the Heritage Open days this weekend.

The Thames Festival includes events all along the river but the river pageant today should be a highlight as will be the firworks tomorrow night from the middle of the river between Blackfriars and Waterloo bridges and the night carnival. And continuing with the fire theme, there will be a fire garden outside Tate Modern.

St Katherines’s Dock will house he wooden yachts and down at Southwark will be a large food festival. It’s just a shame that there is a “formal” end to Summer. Without that and balmy weather I could have imagined it might last until October. So for the last event of summer in London let’s hope that the weather will improve on summer and will be kind to us this weekend.
