You probably remember from lessons at school, Lord Lytton’s novel “The Last Days of Pompeii”or even the Frankie Howerd film, “Up Pompeii” the story of the city that was mostly covered in volcanic ash. Now the site is one of the great tourist “must-do’s.” But the way things are going it might be a “must don’t.”
Although many parts of Thailand have been affected by floods, they are expected to recede in a few weeks, and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) team have welcomed guests at this week’s World Travel Market with smiles and enthusiasm, despite the damage that the floods are causing back home.

In Belfast tomorrow the first of the big consumer holiday shows opens. Sponsored by the Belfast Telegraph at the Kings Hall, the Holiday World Show is on until Sunday. The following weekend a slightly larger version moves on to the RDS, Simmonscourt in Dublin where some of the exhibitors vary.
