As we celebrate France on their national holiday we begin a week of stories on France starting with a brief introduction to each of the 22 French mainland regions and Corsica.
This is the last weekend when you can visit the Museum of Transport in Glasgow. It closes at he end of tomorrow after 46 years sitting on the site of the old Coplawhill tramworks which closed in 1962. Now begins the task of transferring the exhibits to the new Riverside Museum which opens next Spring. All through this weekend there are plenty of activities and even trips on some of the classic buses of the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust.
Tomorrow, the final day, has been given a carnival atmosphere when there will music, dance and comedy alongside the exhibits. The events kick off at 11am on Sunday and runs till 4.30pm.
The UK government with the assistance of advisors and the governments in Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales has put forward eleven sites to UNESCO for consideration as world heritage sites. There a committee will vet and visit the chosen 11 before the final decision is made which will join the other 28 sites that have UNESCO status in the UK.
Even before the programme Panorama was aired last night, both Ryanair and the BBC were jostling for the high ground. Ryanair claimed the programme was doing a hatchet job on them. The BBC said that Ryanair wanted editorial control over the programme content. The BBC, Ryanair said, that Ryanair’s CEO, Michael O’Leary wouldn’t give an interview although he talked to the presenter, Vivian White and dominated the short interview. In fact White look ruffled as O’Leary dominated the questions.
