Chesterfield Well Dressing Under Construction

Submitted by admin on June 14, 2010 – 12:39 pmNo Comment

Find out how this ancient Derbyshire tradition of well dressing is made by watching the well dressers at work. The team will begin by claying the board and then outlining the design. Dried materials such as straw, alder cones, dried chamomile flowers, peppercorns, etc will be used early in the week. Rowan berries will add some colour on Wednesday but fresh flowers won’t be added until Thursday as they will be the first to fade. The Well Dressing should be finished by 5 pm on Friday 10 September 2010.
