“I believe that the cyclised city is the civilised city”, declares ebullient Boris Johnson. Love him or hate him, London’s mayor is – not so quietly –revolutionising cycling in the capital.

At this time of the year, there are lots of organisations telling us where we are holidaying over Easter. Are we staying at home or going abroad? Will we be affected by strikes, road engineering works or ferry terminal blockades?
This Easter seems a little odd. No strikes on the horizon; no air traffic control disputes, no ferry problems. All we have are road works to contend.
So on that cheery note, where are we off to?
Now flybe have joined the number of airlines who have recently introduced increases in fuel surcharges. Following on from BA’s £10 increase a couple of weeks ago, flybe has added £3 per fare for bookings where the flight occurs after September 1st. In the grand scheme of things this is a relatively modest increase and it doesn’t take place until after the main summer season is over.
The launch of a new book edited by Bill Bryson, “The Road Less Travelled”, which looks at less well known, less visited places has given the Sunday Times to use the book and ask if readers know of others. The five places it says are the most over-rated are Stonehenge, Petra in Jordan, the Colosseum in Rome, Machu Picchu in Peru and Angkor in Cambodia. So far it has had 90 comments on its website for and against the choices. And that’s a lot more than articles usually get.
