In Glasgow on Thursday night, the annual Celtic Connections began with a torchlight parade beginning in George Square. This is the 18th annual Connections and it has found a niche for itself in the often barren cultural attraction time of January. Running until the end of the month, 1,500 performers in 300 plus events will appear in 13 different venues throughout the city.
Amy Sharpe from eWaterways tells us where she likes to holiday. She is running the London marathon on April 17th for a charity called ‘Shelter Box’ which sends out emergency relief boxes (each box contains a 6 man tent, first aid box, water makers, pots and pans, sleeping bags etc) to countries that have suffered major catastrophes.

Lonely Planet, the BBC owned magazine and tourist guidebook publisher, has surveyed its readers and announced their first ever awards. The idea behind these new awards is to discover what the top experiences of its readers were. But Lonely Planet widened the questions so that its readers were able to offer wider opinions outside the normal sort of awards.
