Edinburgh, Scotland – Muriel Barclay

Muriels journey as an artist is an interesting one. Although she showed talent as a child, she followed more of a traditional career path and became a teacher, after studying History and Philosophy at Edinburgh University, Muriel became a teacher in Glasgow. Her passion for painting was never far away however, and she enrolled in regular art classes, juggling this with family life and a teaching career. After a while, she realised that if she was going to take up art she needed to do it full time, and so dropped everything to pursue it. She has now been a full time artist for 10 years whose works are becoming more and more popular with private collectors and one of her paintings was even stolen to order from a private house earlier this year (terrible for then owner but testament to the fact that her work has become very popular and deemed rather valuable.) Muriel also enjoys many portrait commissions from private clients, much to the delight of her subjects. It is always a very emotional moment when their portraits are finally unveiled, some have even burst into tears, especially when they are of their children, she says.
