Gilpin Hotel & Lake House in Windermere has been named AA Hotel of the Year for England.

“Winning the AA Hotel of the Year Award for 2012 is an incredible honour. The Cunliffe family are delighted that good old fashioned hospitality has been given recognition combined with the very best in design, comfort and service,” commented proprietors, Barney & Zoe Cunliffe.

AA Hotel Services manager, Simon Numphud, added: “It would be difficult to find a finer example of a truly outstanding, family run, country house hotel in the UK. Gilpin is a superb hotel that places its staff and hospitality at the very heart of everything it offers and it is truly deserving of this award.”

Set in 22 acres of country gardens, moors and woodland, Gilpin Hotel has had links with the Cunliffe family for five generations. Rates start from £290 per night including dinner, bed and breakfast, based on two sharing. For further information visit: www.gilpinlodge.co.uk

According to the details on “Britain’s Finest” website, the hotel is not dog friendly. I suspect the reason for this is down to the exceptional quality of the decoration and furnishings. The hotel doesn’t appear to cater for children under 7. However, the best advice would be to contact the Hotel directly and check with them.
