Flying gets its glamour back
Most people associate the word air travel with long queues, the ridiculous removal of shoes and belts, dehydration, seats that don’t recline and cantankerous cabin crew.
However as highly anticipated new BCC 2 drama, Pan Am, looks set to show, flying was – whisper it quietly – once thought of glamorous with flight attendants akin to Bond Girls.
The hit American show (it captured over 11 million viewers in its opening episode on September 25 on ABC) will be flying into living rooms up and down the country next month and promises to capture the glamour of the 1960s jet age. Starring the always excellent Christina Ricci (of The Adams Family fame) as a sexy, sassy stewardess, Pan Am – hailed as the new Mad Men – aims to take us back to the days when flying was actually fun and CD-Traveller, for one, can’t wait!
The show couldn’t have come at a better time: Desperate Housewives has been cancelled while Sky has snapped up the fifth series of Mad Men from the BBC. Factor in the proposed hike in APD and the recession and we need a reason to want to take to the skies… Perhaps Pan Am could be the answer to everyone’s’ prayers?
