Survey shows Brits want Christmas abroad

Speak to my friends and family and, without fail, they’ll tell you that I am not a winter person. It’s true: even though I was born and raised in London, a city known for its cold Christmases, I’ve never gotten used to them. I know plenty of people who wax lyrical about winter – the crisp air, pretty powdery snow, steaming mugs of hot chocolate and, in the words of Nat King Cole, “chestnuts roasting on an open fire” – but I’m not one of them.

For me, winter means months of unflattering thermal underwear, colds and chapped skin. I’d much rather feel the sun on my back on Boxing Day, than a biting wind whip across my face. So you won’t be surprised to read that I’ve spent four out of the last five Christmases frying myself silly, on a glorious stretch of golden sand.

And it seems I am not alone. A new survey from travel deal experts, Travelzoo, says 70 percent of us would be happy to spend the festive season abroad. But while we’re all agreed that we’d like to celebrate the Yuletide holiday away from the Eastenders omnibus and bickering in laws, where are the best destinations to head?

Let us know where you’ll be spending this Christmas, by posting a comment below!

Somewhere where there is no Christmas! Since in my experience even many Islamic countries have got in on the commercial Christmas act I wondered whether Iran would fit the bill. I have been there before and loved it. Could it provide me with a ‘non-Christmas’?
