Gatwick takes off

More passengers chose to take off from Gatwick rather than its bigger London rival, Heathrow, throughout November. Gatwick reported that it saw an extra 12,800 fliers last month – representing a rise of 0.6 percent. No doubt the airport’s decision to axe its landing fees during winter months, played a part in Gatwick’s passenger growth.

Nonetheless on a personal note, I find it hard to get my head around the fact that more passengers are flocking to Gatwick. Gatwick is great but Heathrow has Terminal 5. Designed by British ‘starchitect’ Richard Rogers, Heathrow’s most recent addition cost £4.3bn and took 18 years to design and 20,000 workers to build but in my mind ‘T5’ was worth the wait… Much like Tom Hanks’ character in The Terminal, I could happily hole up in this drop dead gorgeous (think marble floors and panoramic windows), 130ft high building that’s home to 112 shops and restaurants.

But what about you? Does Gatwick get your vote ahead of Heathrow? Or would you make for Manchester or look to Luton or Liverpool airports? Let us know your thoughts by posting a comment below.
