Just over a fortnight ago during a freak storm, a bolt of lightning hit a 125 year-old giant redwood in Sheffield Park and Garden near Haywards Heath in East Sussex. At over eighty foot tall, the tree was the second tallest in the garden so when the lightning struck, the force caused the tree to shatter.
Despite the volcanic ash problems, the winter weather that caused closure at some airports and the economic downturn, Ryanair still managed to increase profits by 26% to £348 million.

I wish I’d known… What to pack, instead of just taking everything. The ship is kept at a pleasant temperature, so casual daywear of t-shirt with shorts, light trousers or cutoffs, with sandals or flipflops is perfect, with a jacket or fleece to go out on deck is fine at this time of year. Shore excursions need comfortable walking shoes and a light mac in case of showers – or torrential rain in Rome – with shoulders and legs covered to enter churches or museums.
