Devonshire delight

Devon is having a moment. The South West county was recently praised by director Steven Spielberg who shot his latest movie, War Horse, in the Devonshire countryside.

The Hollywood hotshot who has a string of iconic films such as Saving Private Ryan and Jaws under his belt said that few places on the planet can compete with this corner of England: “Devon has some of the the most natural wonders in all of England. Its so beautiful. I’ve only ever seen the same kind of landscape one other time and that was when I was in New Zealand. But really there is nothing like Devon. We couldn’t believe it.”

Devon also has the best hotels in the UK according to TripAdvisor’s annual Travellers’ Choice Hotel Awards. The Charterhouse hotel in Torquay was named the best hotel in Britain, while the Crimdon Dene Hotel (also in Torquay) and the Yeoldon House Hotel in Bideford also made it into the top 10.

With half term just around the corner, we know where we’ll be heading…
