Speaking Spanish, French, German or Italian this weekend
I’m rather bad with with languages. I use the right words but in the wrong language so I’ve managed Welsh in Germany and French in Italy. My family despairs and waits for my first faux pas. Rosetta may help me to use the right words in the right place.
And if you’re going away to France, Germany, Italy or Spanish speaking countries this weekend, you could take advantage of a free app from Rosetta Stone – the language learning company.
Deciding to move into the mobile market for language learning, this app is compatible with the iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. To run the app requires iOS 6.0 so most people with a smart phone should have no problems. This app is optimised for iPhone 5.
Learning a language takes more than this free app will allow you but the three free lessons on it will enable you to learn everyday words and phrases; certainly enough to let you get by in most holiday circumstances. Learn the basics for getting directions, meeting people, dining out, staying in hotels, using transportation, and telling time. For the rest, like learning about gerunds and intricately considered sentences, you’ll need to buy the full course. And whilst Rosetta would like you to do that, how many of us use more than a handful of words whilst we holiday?
The app provides basic language skills and a translation function as you’d expect but it also provides pronunciation training, too. New words as well as the pronunciation are combined with images and arranged in a smart sequence and in this way Rosetta thinks that learners naturally connect with the meaning. Why? Because they say that this intuitive approach stimulates the brain’s natural language learning ability and helps to ensure that what the user learns actually sticks beyond the holiday adventure.
Let me know what you think of it please. It might even help me!
