On Parade for the Wedding

As the great day approaches, 594 Guardsmen and 33 Officers from 3 Guards Regiments have been rehearsing at London’s Wellington Barracks. They are “Street Liners” in the Mall and in front of Buckingham Palace. In the meantime, like Joseph Woosnam, lots of us will be on parade at street parties up and down the country and across the world.

Davos: After the snow…

A paradise for “walkers”

“It’s like getting our countryside back ” say some of the locals when Spring comes to Davos.
This has nothing to do with the World Economic Forum (Heads of State and heads of banks and so on) moving off but the fact that being permanently under snow creates a sameness across the Alps. But then the green foothills reappear and the cows with their incredibly clean velvety coats and bells are allowed out again to reclaim their high ground, well higher ground anyway! And so do the “walkers”

Move: choreographing you

Natural Peaceful Provence

The lingering smell of lavender in my bags means I’ve been to Provence again. Apart from all the green and carbon reduction benefits it’s a real stress buster to sit back and travel on the TGV, via Eurostar to the South of France. After 6 hours or so all the cares of London diminish. No worry about staying awake on whilst hammering down the Autoroute. Just sleep easy. Forget check in excess baggage charges, Icelandic ash and all that.

Flanders Fields and Beaches

The first leg of the visit was just a few hundred yards at Dover Docks, in the Coach, to board P&O’s refurbished Pride of Canterbury. On the boat we enjoyed upgrades to the Club Lounge: very comfortable with freedom from baby buggies and very good value at £12 which including free newspapers and Champagne .

Latvia – Youth, architectural beauty and music

Youth, architectural beauty and music really stood out for us in Latvia.

Riga (the capital pop. 800,000) is a UNESCO World Heritage site due to its celebrated
streets of Art Nouveau facades mainly from 1900 to 1917 and many are apartment buildings still in use . The architecture now has its own museum: Rigas Jugendstila Centrs. A curious city feature is the hundreds of spires – not just on churches. Map reading by spire can be easier than reading street names.
